A game of weird blogger tag is developing, with the previously mentioned Neilalien linking back to me. And without any prompting whatsoever! The mystery of his possible Barbelith identity, if any, continues. I've had a few guesses wing my way already. Oh, it's late and I'm tired, but this is my last chance to post something for many days. Everything is ka-blooey. In a good way. The Animation Festival started up tonight, and I got to volunteer and catch all the magic. It should be an interesting weekend, and I'm sure I'll gush all about it next time. Earlier today I was thinking about how drawing animation is like how most of the cells in your body die and are replaced by new ones, to the point where you're almost a completely different person every few years. Most of the fifty sheets I start with are not the same fifty that I end with. Interesting. The big news concerns the long-awaited Gaiman vs. McFarlane trial aka the fight over Miracleman. I'm telling you, I obsessed over this one for a good, long time. At one point I was even writing an essay for the Barbelith e-zine. If you're not familiar with the case, you can read a brief history of the events leading up to it here. Maybe I'll finish my epic Miracleman and post it here someday. I'm especially interested because it's my belief that none of the players involved have a moral right to the character of Miracleman. It makes me wince when I see Alan Moore listed as the creator of Miracleman, as was seen in a report by Comicon's Pulse. Bah. i won't go into it right now, but if you want more info on the case as it happens, here's a variety of links. Comicon Pulse - Day 1 Comicon Pulse - Day 2 Newsrama - Day 1 Icv2 - Day 1 Icv2 - Day 2 Gaiman's Blog In other news, The Shifter Project that I mentioned earlier has slowed down even as our first batch of stories nears completion. We're always looking for fresh talent, or even non-talents. It's a fucking crime that Grant, Master of Weird Lore, no longer has an artist attached to his story. This is one of the coolest things to come down the pike in awhile. James Sturm, Guy Davis and Craig Thompson in some Classic Fantastic Four goodness. Oh yeah. ![]() I was looking around for any other comic related blogs, and, well, this site creeped me out a bit, but only because we were both commenting on the same stories from the same sources. There was even this... New X-Men Vs... The Comics Journal [Barbelith Underground, Comics Journal MB] Uh oh, the jocks and the nerds have been fighting again. Comics, pros, fans and the internet [Barbelith Underground] Interesting rant; also has an anti-Savant edge. When does Neilalien springboard from this site into the comics business? ;) Weird. Well, more power to him. Just who is this...Neilalien? Ran across this while looking up Gaiman/McFarlane material. I especially liked this quote from Mark Waid. "Sorry to sound exasperated, but I'm just sick to death of the damage WIZARD did by misreporting our aborted plans in such a way that makes those plans - and, by extension, us - look idiotic. 'Brainiac removes the world's memory of the Clark/Lois marriage? Pretty lame!' Guess what: we agree." Um, at the Toronto comic convention a few years back, during a panel, Waid said that this was the premise of their proposal, minus the Braniac part. See, I talked about this with friends for a few years now, long before it appeared in any issue of Wizard. Was I just guessing? Or is Waid backtracking? Or was he joking? Speaking of Waid, and due to the incredible amount of closet MODOK fans coming out of the Big Muderous Head Closet, I will relate my MODOK story from the same convention. During the Q & A mentioned above, the question I posed to Waid was if he had any plans or MODOK. He became very excited and said that he had always wanted to write "A Day in the Life of MODOK," where we see the AIM leader waking up, eatign breakfast, gettign hosed down by AIM scientists, etc. I mean, who wouldn't want to read this? I told him I would be happy to draw it. I'm still waiting for the script, Waid. ![]() Until next time, Everybody Loves MODOK! |
